What are some roof maintenance tips for this time of the year?
Gutters and Downspouts
Each winter, debris ends up in your gutters and downspouts. Therefore, it’s time to clean the gutters. You should get leaves, twigs, and dirt out of there! Otherwise, you’ll get clogs, which can lead to cracks and/or pooling of water around the base of your house– with water eventually trying to seep into your basement.
Shingle Maintenance
How are your shingles looking this Spring? Look for any that are missing, curling upward, and/or worn out with missing granules. Replace missing shingles.
Besides checking shingles, also look for mold or algae growing on shingles or other parts of your roof. You don’t want that to get out of hand and take over your roof!
A Visual Look
Here’s a good tip: take photos of your roof, as best you can, to document how it looks right now. If you can use a drone to get footage from above, that’s ideal! Or go in your yard, aim the camera at the roof, and take a couple pics, so you’ll have a record of how it looked in Spring 2021. If you notice anything odd about the pictures, such as a hole in the roof, or an animal that could be “living up there near the chimney,” then it’s a good idea to call Roofing by Bruce to come take a look. Photos are also a good thing to have on hand in case you have to make any insurance claims for damages.
